A Common Question, and a Common Myth
If you’re pregnant and considering IV therapy, you’re probably wondering the same thing a lot of moms-to-be ask: am I even allowed to do this?
Here’s the truth: yes, pregnant women can safely receive an IV drip during pregnancy, including in the third trimester. The myth that pregnancy automatically rules it out keeps a lot of women from asking for support they’re actually eligible for. Our hope with this post is simple: if you’ve been quietly assuming IV therapy isn’t an option for you right now, we want you to know it might be.
That said, “yes” comes with real safeguards. Let’s walk through what that actually looks like.
What We Require Before Any Pregnant Client Is Treated
Safety comes before convenience, always. Before we administer an IV drip during pregnancy, we require:
- Verbal permission from the client herself.
- OB approval, meaning your doctor needs to know and agree.
- A completed Good Faith exam form.
There’s no shortcut around these steps. Your OB knows your pregnancy, your history, and your risk factors better than anyone, so their sign-off isn’t a formality. It’s the foundation of a safe visit.
Does Trimester Matter?
This is where the myth really lives. Many women assume there’s a cutoff, maybe first trimester only, or nothing after a certain week. There isn’t one.
As long as your OB is aware and approves, we can provide an IV drip during pregnancy all the way through the third trimester. Pregnancy is not, by itself, a disqualifier.
What does disqualify a client is a genuine safety concern, regardless of what week they’re in. High-risk pregnancies and pre-eclampsia are outside what we treat, even with a doctor’s approval, because some situations call for a higher level of medical oversight than a mobile wellness visit can provide.
What’s Actually in the IV?
We don’t create a special pregnancy formula. The ingredients in our drips stay the same. What changes is the focus: our nurses help identify what a client actually needs in that moment and guide her toward the drip that fits.
For pregnant clients, that most often means:
- Pure Hydration IV, for the days when nausea, heat, or simply keeping enough fluids down feels like a full-time job
- Energy Booster IV, for the exhaustion that regular sleep doesn’t seem to touch
Who’s Administering It?
Every GIV nurse is a licensed Registered Nurse, fully capable of caring for a pregnant client. You’re not waiting on a single specialist to be available. Our whole team is equipped to show up for you, safely.
Why Mobile Care Matters More When You’re Pregnant
Pregnancy changes what “convenience” means. When you’re nauseous, exhausted, or simply not feeling like yourself, avoiding a drive and a waiting room isn’t a luxury. Sometimes it’s one less thing you have to manage.
That’s part of what “give more than you receive” means to us. Our nurses don’t just bring an IV drip during pregnancy to your door. They bring care, attention, and reassurance into a moment when you may need a little more of all three.
Pregnancy can already make an uncomfortable day feel harder. Getting the care you need shouldn’t make it harder, too. Mobile care removes one piece of that burden, but your safety, and your baby’s, always comes first.
FAQs
Does IV therapy cost more for pregnant clients? No. Pricing is the same as our standard drips. The only additional requirement is OB approval, not an added fee.
Do I need a special formula because I’m pregnant? No, the ingredients don’t change. Your nurse will help guide you toward the drip that fits what you’re experiencing.
Can I get an IV drip during pregnancy in my third trimester? Yes, as long as your OB is aware and agrees to the treatment.
What would disqualify me? High-risk pregnancy and pre-eclampsia are outside of what we’re able to treat, regardless of trimester.
Talk to Your OB. Then Talk to Us.
If you’ve been assuming IV therapy is off the table because you’re pregnant, we hope this clears things up: it’s not. It just comes with an extra, important step. Talk to your OB, get their approval, and let us know how we can support you from there.
